Brussels, 22/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The General Affairs Council adopted conclusions in which it "condemns the assassination of President Kabila" and calls on the EU special representative for the Great Lakes, Aldo Ajello to go to the region "as soon as possible" to call on the parties in conflict to dialogue and respect the Lusaka agreements. The Council invites these technical instances to draft "quickly recommendations" on: - the action to follow on the basis of the Ajello report; - a possible embargo and its details, in view of stemming the flow of arms that feed and prolong the conflict in DRC and in the Great Lakes region."
