Commission authorises creation of joint venture between Corus and Cogifer

Brussels, 21/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission gave the green light to the creation of a joint venture between Corus group plc, subsidiary of the British Steel group, and Cogifer (Companie general d'instalations ferroviaires), a French subsidiary of De Dietrich & Cie, responsible for the manufacturing and sale of railway switches and crossings in the United Kingdom. A significant producer of steel, Corus manufactures and distributes steel and aluminium products. Its 100% subsidiary Corus produces rail switches and crossing designs, manufacturers and assembles all types of railway equipment and carries out nearly all of its turnover in the United Kingdom. De Dietrich exercises, for its part, activities in chemical plants as well as railway installations through the intermediary of Cogifer. The Commission notes that the operation does not raise any concerns in terms of competition on the British market where it does not create any overlaps, nor in the remainder of the EU.
