VERIZON has given up its plan to buy out NORTHPOINT, the US operator specialised in rapid Internet access, given that NORTHPOINT's results have deteriorated. It had announced in August the acquisition of 55% of NORTHPOINT for the sum of $800 million. See EI of 26 August.
