Brussels, 04/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission recently launched a consultation process with interested parties for the definition of air transport service quality indicators. Announced in the Commission's June communication on passenger rights, this study will allow the Commission to publish reports which, in future, will give passengers the possibility to compare the performances of different companies in terms of punctuality, information on delays, overbooking, etc.
During a first stage, the Commission will consult parties for the setting in place of a data notification system. It will then propose, on this basis, a legislation that will make it compulsory for companies to provide regular information to be used in the Commission's reports.
The current Commission consultation paper is available on the Internet at: http: //europa.eu.int/comm/transport/themes/air/english/at en.html
