YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS FOR EUROPE (YES), the European confederation of Young Entrepreneurs, is to hold its annual forum in Brussels on 17 and 18 November aimed at creating a meeting between young entrepreneurs and European decision-makers. This year, the meeting will focus on the New Economy and the challenge for Europe with the following title "Tradition@News_Economy.com. Click on Competition, Training, Social Responsibility". Debates will on the whole revolve around the difficulties for small and medium-sized enterprises to adapt to the new economic environment, given that, on the one hand, the constant progress in communications technologies and the driving forces of globalisation, and, on the other, Europe's belated awakening to new techniques (e-commerce, e-business, Internet, etc.). How many possibilities does the future offer? What instruments do SMEs have at their disposal? Is there a conflict between the "old" and "new" economy? Is it possible to integrate them? Is it possible to follow without adapting? It is to these questions and many others that the forum intends providing elements of answers. European Commissioner for research Philippe Busquin, the Head of the Cabinet of Commissioner Liikanen, Olli Rehn and Massimo Carraro MEP, will take part in two round tables on Friday 17, one on research and innovation and the other one the new economy. They will be assisted by other experts and company heads (of the groups LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES and HEWLETT PACKARD, notably) who will flesh out the discussions by sharing their experiences. Three workshops will be organised on Saturday 18 on the more specific subjects of competition, training and social responsibility.
