Brussels, 09/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Union's Interim Political and Security Committee (COPSi), chaired by Michel Duclos, held discussions with NATO's Permanent Council under the chairmanship of its Secretary General Lord Robertson in Brussels on 8-9 November. They discussed the extension of the relationship between the European Union and NATO in their meetings on 8 November at the Council in Brussels and 9 November at NATO's headquarters. NATO sources suggest that progress was made on all areas discussed: security arrangements for classified documents exchanged between the EU and NATO; military capacity for reaching the "Headline Goal" of an EU force of around 80 000 troops; EU access to NATO's resources (NATO wants to avoid all 'duplication', which it feels would be "disastrous" for planning); and the permanent arrangements between the EU and NATO.
