On Wednesday, Commission presents progress reports on candidate countries to European Parliament

Brussels, 07/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - As it had done for other dossiers of crucial importance (for example, institutional reform of the EU) the European Parliament organised, this Wednesday 8 November in Brussels, for the adoption by the European Commission of its reports on the progress achieved by the accession candidate countries - including Turkey-, a special meeting of the Conference of Presidents of Political Groups enlarged to all MEPs wanting to participate - in other words, a sort of mini-plenary session.

14: 30pm, the President of the European Commission Romano Prodi will come to explain to the MEPs the essence of the report on the various candidate countries. During a session that should last around one and a half hours, the Presidents of political groups will then speak, and the Commissioner for Enlargement Gunter Verheugen will answer their questions, as well as those of other parliamentarians who will question the Commission (without a prior order, according to the "catch the President's eye" formula).

The German Christian Democrat Elmar Brok, rapporteur for the enlargement process as a whole, will give a press conference at 14pm, before the mini-plenary.
