Luxembourg, 07/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank granted a group of loans, totalling EUR 397 million in favour of projects in the transport sector in Romania. It concerns:
- 245 million for the improvement of the road network: rehabilitation of main transit roads, notably between Cluj Napoca (Transylvania) and Suceava (Moldovia) and the path linking the cities of Simeria and Petrosani (Western Romania);
- 115 million for Bucharest metro: modernisation of 60 tracks and completion of 4.8km trunk of line in south of capital;
- 7 million for urban transports in Bucharest: acquisition of a modern ticketing system for buses, trams and trolleybuses;
- 15 million for rail transport: acquisition of material for track and catenary maintenance equipment as well as a new computerised passenger ticketing and seat reservation system;
- 15 million for Constanta port administration: improvement of water and electricity supply infrastructure.
