The British bank ABBEY NATIONAL has approached the Scottish establishment BOS - BANK OF SCOTLAND in view of making a takeover bid that would create Britain's number five in the banking sector. The offer has, however, been turned down by BOS, qualifying as "improbable" a "satisfactory" agreement for its shareholders.
