12/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - An arbitrator of the World Trade Organisation has given Canada until 19 February 2001 to conform with the conclusions of the WTO Appellate Body, which in June confirmed the illegality of the "Canadian Auto Pact". The EU and Japan had taken the Pact before the WTO as it enabled certain manufacturers - essentially American - located in Canada to import their spare parts and vehicles without customs duties (see EUROPE of 17 June 2000).
