Speaking before Cairns Group, Fischler reaffirms that agriculture in international negotiations cannot follow same rules as industry, and gives conditions for increased liberalisation

Brussels, 12/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - European Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler, took part for the first time at a ministerial meeting of the Cairns Group, the group of countries that are fighting for liberalisation of agricultural trade worldwide and which are campaigning for the dismantling of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The Commissioner has thus had an opportunity to firmly restate the position of the EU in this tricky area.
