Brussels, 12/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Britta Lejon, Swedish Minister responsible for issues of administration, democracy and transparency, asserted that Sweden intends to support the Netherlands who brought the Council before Court of Justice for having unilaterally modified, this summer, the rules on access to Union document, to introduce a "top secret" classification to those concerning security and defence. "The Council's decision from this summer was a great disappointment for Sweden, We do not accept such a result for the new rules on the access to information that are being negotiated", said Mrs Lejon. EUROPE recalls that during the meeting with the Conference of Political group Presidents from the European Parliament, Mr Solana had made a certain overture over the idea of granting access to classified documents, with certain conditions, to a limited group of MEPs.
