Brussels, 18/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) are organising a conference in Bad Munder (neat Hanover) from 5 to 7 October 2000 on "The unification of Europe: the role of trade unions in the EU's enlargement process". Participants will turn to the political, economic and social dimensions, as well as the sensitive issue of the labour markets and the freedom of movement. Among the speakers: European Commissioner Gunter Verheugen, the Polish negotiator for EU accession, Jan Kulakowski, Elmar Brok MEP (Germany, EPP), ETUC's Deputy General Secretary, Jean Lapeyre, Unice's Director of the "Social Affairs" Committee, Therese de Liederberke, Ms. Odile Quitin, Director General of DG V (employment) in the European Commission. Emilio Gabaglio, ETUC General secretary, will conclude the work.
