Brussels, 18/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Amelia Torres, spokesperson responsible for competition, indicated that the companies EMI and Time Warner have formulated proposals to the Commission in view of lifting the obstacles to their merger. These proposals must still be formulated by the parties, added the spokesperson. They will then be the object of an in-depth examination and market tests. These proposals, whose content has not been disclosed, have been presented by the heads of EMI and Time Warner to Commissioner Monti during a meeting held on Monday morning. The parties have until this Tuesday at midnight to formulate them in written form. It is obvious that the decision the Commission will take at the start of October (see EUROPE of 16 September, p.12) will take into account these developments, and that the expectations of a negative decision could be disproved by the facts.
