Brussels, 18/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - One and a half months before the publication, by the European Commission (8 November), of the new regular reports on the state of readiness of the thirteen candidate countries to accession, the Association Councils of the EU/Czech Republic and EU/Hungary, which will take place this Tuesday in Brussels, at Ministers for Foreign Affairs level, will obviously be dominated by an assessment of the preparatory works of the two countries in view of their accession to the EU. Special attention will be made to their state of readiness concerning economic criteria as well as the ability of the two countries to implement and correctly apply the Community acquis. Furthermore it will be a question of some specific bilateral commercial problems as well as, in a more general manner, the application of the Europe Agreements. With regard to the Czech Republic, the case concerning the start-up of the Temelin nuclear power station should also be discussed.
