The Dutch group AHOLD (turnover of EUR 17.2 billion in the first quarter 2000) acquired the Spanish SUPERDIPLO (turnover of 191.187 billion pesetas in 1999 with 274 establishments) for a total amount of EUR 1.5 billion. AHOLD present manages 230 supermarkets in Spain which recorded a turnover of 83.19 billion pesetas in 1999. Once the operation completed, AHOLD will have on the Iberian penninsula an annual turnover of around EUR 2 billion.
