Strasbourg, 08/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Further to the signing, on 28 August in Arusha, of a peace protocol to put an end to the conflict that has been raging since 1993, the EP adopted a resolution in which it affirms that EU structural aid in favour of Burundi should be gradually resumed as soon as conditions regarding reconciliation, respects of human rights and security, have been fulfilled. The EP calls on all Burundis to renounce the violence and invites the parties that have refused to sign the Arusha protocol to review their position. Finally, it invites neighbouring countries to support the peace process and to ensure that their territory is not used as a threat to the security of the Burundi people.
