04/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Enrique Baron, leader of the Socialist Group, stressed, during a meeting of the Group's Bureau, that the priorities of Socialists in coming months will, in addition to the IGC and the Charter of Fundamental Rights, be the adoption of common positions on globalisation, public services, and reform of the European Parliament, including the statute of MEPs. Furthermore, Mr Baron informed Claudio Martelli, member of the Group's Bureau, that, by resigning from the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) to join the "League of Socialists" supported by Silvio Berlusconi, he had excluded himself from the Socialist Group. Mr Baron recalled that, to belong to the EP Socialist Group, one must belong to a national party that is a member of the Party of European Socialists.
