The US oil drilling firm TRANSOCEAN SEDCO FOREX has acquired R&B FALCON for the sum of $8.8 billion, thus becoming the largest off-shore drilling company in the world and the third largest oil industry services company. The stock exchange capitalisation of the new venture, which will employ 15,000, will be $17.7 billion.
