Brussels, 25/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Internet server of the European Institutions, Europa, recorded 3.8 million connections a day in the month of July, say the latest monthly statistics published on the Europa site. Since the beginning of the year, the server has recorded from 3.6 to 4.6 million connections a day, or some 130 million monthly connections, with peaks in November 1999, March 2000 and May 2000. According to a mini-poll which the European Commission conducted at the beginning of the year among the users of the server, most people to connect are men (66%), of around twenty (40%) and students (25%), officials (17%), researchers and consultants (12%). Journalists, teachers and legal experts only represent 5% each of those who responded to the poll. The Germans are those who mostly consult the European site (16%), ahead of the Italians (12%), the French (10%) and the British and Austrians (9%). Only 14% of those connected to the site are not Community members. As for the rest o the world network, English is the main language used to consult the European server (56%), way ahead of German (25%) and French (24%).
