Brussels, 23/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council has stricken off the Norwegian firm Fryseriet AS from the list of Norwegian salmon exporters that escape anti-duping duties and countervailing duties applied by the EU to their exports to the Community territory. Five other companies, which are new exporters, have, on the other hand, been added to the list of exemptions. These are Emborg Foods Norge AS, Helle Mat AS, Norsea Food AS, Salmon Company Fjord Norway AS and Stella Polaris AS.
Since September 1997, the EU has imposed anti-dumping and countervailing duties on the import of Norwegian salmon. This decision, taken after talks with Norway, came together with a long list of Norwegian exporters who were exempted from these duties on condition that they respect a minimum price and limits to the volume of their exports. The companies had also to present a quarterly report on their sales in the Community. Fryseriet AS not having presented this report for the fourth quarter 1999, the Council, on a recommendation from the Commission, abolished the exemption of duties granted to this company (see Official Journal L. 208 of 18 August, p.1 and 47).
