Brussels, 23/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - In a letter addressed to Commissioner Franz Fischler, the chairman of the "Vignerons coopérateurs de France", Denis Verdier, recalls that French winegrowers had applauded the decisions of the Council of Ministers concerning the new wine sector CMO, which came into effect on 1 August. They deplore, however, the fact that the measures of implementation taken by the European Commission do not allow the political agreement between the Fifteen to be implemented. "We are therefore greatly disappointed", writes Mr Verdier, who mainly insists on the absence of implementation of the preventive distillation mechanism with modulated prices. Mr Verdier also expresses regret about the marketing of wine products blended from several origins, and stresses that, at a time when the consumer is rightly demanding traceability and greater food safety, there is no information on this kind of product. He went on to request that Commissioner Fischler should soon receive a delegation of French wine-growers.
