18/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - Two meetings devoted to rescuing the nuclear submarine Kursk, that sank in the Barents Sea with 118 men on board, was held in Brussels on Thursday, at NATO Headquarters, between Russia, represented by Admiral Alexander Poboji, and members of Allied Staff Headquarters Northwood (UK). The first of these meetings was on technical rescue issues, the second was to enable them to have "round the table" talks on different forms of assistance NATO members could provide Russia. According to a NATO spokesperson, quoted by Agence Belga, talks took place in a very positive atmosphere. Friday, rescue attempts were still in vain.
