Brussels, 18/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is to provide 2 million euro in humanitarian aid to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). This aid is intended to enable different non-governmental organisations (NGOs) partners of the European Commission to continue their work on the ground until the end of the year. It is a question of food aid, assisting refugees, education, as well as aid aimed at strengthening the institutional fabric (social assistance, NGOs…). Some 20,000 particularly vulnerable people will benefit from this project: among the priority groups are children, Serbs from Kosovo and members of the Roma community.
The aid will be managed by the European Communities' Humanitarian Aid Office, Echo. The partner NGOs are: InterSOS, Cooperazione e Sviluppo, and Centro Regionale di Intervento per la Cooperazione.
