Brussels, 18/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission had no objections to the acquisition of WF Electrical Plc by Hagemeyer Ltd, a subsidiary of the Dutch company Hagemeyer NV. Active in the production of industrial products, notably electrical products, this company is mainly present under the following names: Newey & Eyre in England and Wales, Ross Electrical in Scotland and Dunlop & Hamilton in Northern Ireland. As for WF, it is also providing wholesale electrical component, mainly in England and Wales.
This acquisition, which will be carried out through a public offering, will make Hagemeyer the largest wholesaler in the United Kingdom. Though the company will be subjected to competition from two larger rivals, namely Edmundson Electrical and City Electrical Factors as well as smaller wholesalers at a local level. Due to the competitive structure of the market and the weak barriers to entry, the Commission feels that no dominant position will be created.
