Luxembourg, 18/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - Ms Ninon Colneric, the new judge at the European Court of Justice, took up her duties on Saturday 15 July.
Ms Colneric, of German nationality, replaces Mr Günter Hirsch, who served as judge from 7 October 1994 but who recently resigned, having been called upon to take up the post of President of the highest civil jurisdiction in Germany (the Bundesgerichtshof). The representatives of the EU Member States designated Ms Colneric for the duration of the mandate still to run, that is, from 14 July to 5 October 2000. Ms Colneric was sworn in, in conformity with the provisions of the Treaty, during a solemn hearing of the Court held on 14 July.
Ms Colneric was born in 1948. After completing her studies in Tübingen, Munich and Geneva, she obtained qualifications and served as professor at the Universities of Munich, Frankfurt and Bremen. Since 1989 she has been President of the Landesarbeitsgericht Schleswig-Holstein. She is specialised in European labour law.
