Brussels, 21/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Council has adopted the Decision to sign the protocol agreement drawn up between the EU and Korea in the ship-building sector. The agreement (drawn up last April in the form of "approved minutes") commits Korea to not subsidise naval shipyards, ensure that healthy financial and accounting principles are respected and cooperate in restructuring the world ship-building industry which is suffering from overproduction. At May's meeting, the Industry Council asked the Commission to present a report on the implementation of this agreement. If the results of the report are not convincing, the EU will consider embarking on dispute regulation procedures at the WTO (see EUROPE, 19 May, p.8).
