Achilleas Mitsos named Director General for Research

Brussels, 13/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - Achilleas Mitsos has been named Director General for Research at the European Commission. Joining the Commission in 1985 as Chef de Cabinet of the Commissioner for regional policy, Mr Mitsos has been Director of DG Research since 1996. According to Commissioner Philippe Busquin, his main task will be to ensure that the DG "is organised as effectively as possible" to be able to respond to the objectives established by the Lisbon Summit.
