Commission initiates proceedings against France for improper transposition of electricity directive

Brussels, 13/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to send France a letter of notice concerning its law transposing the directive on liberalisation of the European electricity market (96/92). The Commission considers that Article 22.3 of the French law, which imposes a minimal duration of three years for any contractual framework for the supply of electricity, constitutes an obstacle to the free movement of electricity and freedom to provide such services.
