Round table on the extreme right in Bern on 26 June

Brussels, 02/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - Following its round table on enlargement, in Prague this month, the Party of European Socialists, chaired by Rudolf Scharping, is organising a round table in Bern on 26 June on the dangers of the reemergence if the extreme right in Europe, and, as a press release states, "the extreme right link to Eurosceptics". Topics dealt with will include: - populism, xenophobia and nationalism throughout Europe; - migration and xenophobia: European responses; - the responsibility of European social democracy. Among the speakers will be Rudolf Scharping, the President of the Socialist Group in the EP Enrique Baron, the Speaker in the Austrian Parliament, Heinz Fischer, the Speaker of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Thiers, the Leader of the Socialist Group in the Swiss Federal Assembly, Franco Cavalli, the Swiss Minister for Home Affairs, Ruth Dreifuss, the Director of the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia, Beate Winkler, and the Leader of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Social Democrat Party Zlatko Lagumdzuja.
