Pristina, 18/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 18 April, Eurocorps took over the command of KFOR, the multinational peace force in Kosovo, for six months. Command was hitherto held by LANDCENT (NATO land forces Central Europe). Eurocorps Commander, Spanish General Juan Ortuno, thus took over from German General Klaus Reinhard during a ceremony in Pristina at which the SACEUR (Supreme Allied Command in Europe), US General Wesley Clark, took part. The latter recalled that the officers of Eurocorps will be subordinate to NATO (under the control of SACEUR Joseph Ralston, who will take over from General Clark on 3 May).
Eurocorps (founded in 1993 and formed of French, German, Spanish, Belgian and Luxembourg officers) had already sent 350 officers to Pristina on 5 March this year.
