Brussels, 14/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the operation whereby the US company Arrow Electronics will acquire full ownership of the French company Tekelec Europe, the electronic components wholesale distributor. As in the case of takeover of Sonepar Electronique by Avnet, approved last December (see EUROPE of 9 December 1999), the European Commission felt that the wholesale market of electronic components remains predominantly national within Europe. It therefore examined the operation from this point of view and noted that: 1) in France, Spain and the Netherlands, Arrow will have to face several powerful rivals like Avnet and Veba; ii) in Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany, the presence of Tekelec is "very weak" and the position of Arrow will only be slightly strengthened. The operation does not therefore entail a dominant position.
