Mr. Sexias and Mr. Patten have underlined need to tackle political problems and overcome difficulties of aid distribution

Strasbourg, 14/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission and the Portuguese Presidency of the Council have, in announcements before the European Parliament, underlined that the European Union has intervened to help Ethiopia deal with a new humanitarian crisis. Mr. Sexias and Mr. Patten recalled the decisions taken last Monday by the General Affairs Council, but also underlined that if we are to find a true solution, they have to tackle the political problems of the region.
