Brussels, 04/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission authorised the creation of a joint venture between the Japanese companies NEC and Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems Corporation, which will produce and market PC monitors. In Europe, the activities of the joint venture will relate to the research and development, the distribution, sale, and after sales services through a subsidiary in Munich (Germany). The subsidiary will create a network in France and the United Kingdom. The Commission noted that, in the European Economic area, the parties will have a combined market share of 15% for monitors. Their share will exceed this figure for Liquid Crystal monitors (LCD), but this new market remains "embryonic" and other large companies are also present, notes the Commission in its press release.
