The German group VOLKSWAGEN has paid SEK 13.8 bn to the financial holding company INVESTOR for 37.4 million shares in the Swedish heavy goods manufacturing company SCANIA (turnover of SEK 47.11 bn with 50,414 heavy goods and public transport vehicles sold in 1999, and a workforce of 26,000), corresponding to 18.7% of the capital and 34% of voting rights. The price per share stands at SEK 266. With this transaction, VW becomes SCANIA's foremost shareholder, ahead of VOLVO.
