Plenary session

Brussels, 28/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Social and Economic Committee (SEC) will gather this Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 March in plenary under the Presidency of Beatrice Rangoni-Machiavelli. The European Commission Vice-President Neil Kinnock will speak on the "strategic objectives 2000-2005 and the reform of the European Commission", on Wednesday at 1530pm. The Committee will then have to rule on two very controversial opinions, that is to say: 1) The own initiative opinion relating to "pluralism and concentration in the media", on which the debate over which the debate has been returned once before (see EUROPE of 2 February, p.14). 2) The opinion on the "manufacturing, presentation and sale of tobacco products," that poses a notable problem of knowing whether the EU must maintain subsidies for its cultivation.
