Demonstration for railway workers day

Brussels, 28/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The international railway workers day, this Wednesday, will have as theme the promotion of the railways as a means of ecological and user quality transport. The rail unions in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Luxembourg are organising in conjunction with the European Transport Federation (ETF), co-operation trains with actions in all the stations.

The Secretary General of the ETF Doro Zinke indicated that the approach in favour of the railways answers the following criteria: priority to security against profits, fair competition, co-operation and not privatisation, public services, sustainable mobility. The ETF recalled that the union organisations criticise the EU Transports Ministers plans to develop a Liberalised European Rail Goods Transport Network, a spectacular plan, but without internal illogical.
