Parliament approves spot checks on trucks but demands a system of sanctions

Strasbourg, 15/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report by German Social-Democrat Wilhelm Pieyck, Parliament approved, in the framework of the co-decision procedure, the Council's "common position" aimed at introducing technical "spot checks" on trucks (also see EUROPE of 26 February, p.13). It nevertheless reintroduces an amendment, already adopted on first reading, that provides for Member States having to set up a system of sanctions applicable when a driver or a company does not...
