Brussels, 24/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - As EUROPE has already announced, the Convention charged with drafting a European Charter of Fundamental Rights is holding its first informal meeting, in its working group composition, on the afternoon of 24 February and the morning of 25 February, at the European Parliament. It will be examining a number of draft articles (see yesterday's bulletin, page 5). EUROPE would recall that these meetings are open to the public. Following is a tentative timetable of the Convention's work (to which will be added several meetings of the Drafting Committee):
2 and 3 March, meeting in working group composition; 20 and 21 March, plenary Convention; 27 and 28 March, working group. Meetings will be held at the European Parliament.
3 and 4 April, working group; 27 and 28 April, working group. Meetings held at the EP.
11 and 12 May, working group; 22 and 23 May, working group. Meetings at the European Union Council.
5 and 6 June, plenary Convention; 19 and 20 June, working group; 29 and 30 June, working group. Meetings at the Council.
17 and 18 July, working group, at the Council.
11 and 12 September, plenary Convention; 25 and 26 September, working group. Meetings at the European Parliament.
Possibly 9 and 10 October, working group; 18 and 19 October, plenary Convention. Meetings at the European Parliament.
