Alexandre Marc, cofounder of UEF, dies

Brussels, 24/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - Alexandre Marc, cofounder and first Secretary General of the UEF (in December 1946) and founder of the International Centre for European Training (in December 1954), died on 21 February, near Vence. The Secretary General of the Union of European Federalists, Bruno Boissière, paid tribute to Mr Marc's "unfinished" combat for federal objectives and expressed the organisation's grief over his passing.

Alexandre Marc, notes a statement by the UEF, was born in Odessa in January 1904. After working with Denis de Rougemont in the 1930s for an "integral" federalism based on the ideas of Proudhon, he founded the UEF with Henri Brugmans and in the early 60s was one of the founders of the Congress of European People (which was the "only federalist and people's alternative after the failure of the supranational Europe", notes the statement).
