The American health Internet site HEALTHEON/WEBMD ($48.8 million turnover in 1998), which puts patients and medical practitioners in contact over the Web, has taken over the American medical management system MEDICAL MANAGER CORP ($258 million in sales in 1999 with a workforce of 2,500 and a clientele of 185,000 doctors) and its subsidiary CAREINSITE (annual $1.4 million turnover) for close to $5 bn through share swaps.
