9TH meeting of EU/Turkey Joint Consultative Committee

Brussels, 16/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The EU/Turkey Joint Consultative Committee is meeting in Brussels on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 February, co-chaired by Mr. Kavi, President of the Council of Administration of the Chamber of Istanbul, and Mr. Pezzini, member of the European Economic and Social Committee (ESC, various interest group, Italy). The agenda is as follows: 1) adoption of a resolution on "the question of migration: Turkey's case" (rapporteurs: Mrs. Cassina and Mr. Uslu); 2) point of information on the creation of an Economic and Social Council in Turkey; 3) Mr. Van Der Linden (European Commissioner, DG Enlargement) and S.E.M. Akyol (Turkey's permanent delegate) will turn to the state of relations between the EU and Turkey and present future prospects; 4) general discussion on "the role and responsibility of the economic and social partners of the EU and Turkey in harmonisation and the adoption of the acquis communautaire"; 5) discussion on the report be Messrs. Walker and Keskin on "the liberalisation of services".

The EU/Turkey Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) is an association body composed of 18 representatives from Turkish economic and social circles and an equal number from the ESC.
