25/08/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 August, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos welcomed the Montenegrin Parliament’s vote earlier in the day in favour of strengthening the independence of the judiciary and the Central Bank in its Constitution. “This is another big step for Montenegro’s European path. It shows a broad consensus and is a major step towards closing the all-important fundamentals chapters”, Mrs Kos stated on the social network X. Adopting the amendments would require a two-thirds majority, so at least 54 MPs. The amendments were approved by 68 MPs, with none voting against or abstaining. (CG)
