Hungary to make single payment request under revised post-Covid-19 recovery plan

The government of Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar is expected to make only one official payment request under its revised post-Covid-19 recovery plan, approved by the Council of the EU in early July (see EUROPE 13907/4).

This request, which must be submitted to the European Commission by the end of September at the latest, will have to set out all the agreed preliminary measures, reforms and investments that will have been completed by the end of August, the deadline for completing national recovery plans. Although it is monitoring implementation of the Hungarian plan, the EU institution is not currently in a position to indicate whether the payment request will cover the total allocation of the revised Hungarian plan, namely around €10 billion (€6.5 billion in grants and €3.5 billion in loans).

The Commission has until the end of 2026 to analyse the final payment requests submitted by Member States under their national post-Covid-19 recovery plans.
