25/08/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 August, the European Commission launched a call for evidence on the application of the European directive on the processing of personal data by police and judicial authorities for law enforcement purposes. Citizens and stakeholders may submit their feedback until 14 September, midnight, Brussels time. Having entered into force eight years ago, these rules are intended to allow their exchange between the law enforcement and judicial authorities of the Member States while guaranteeing a high level of protection of personal data. The European Commission is now preparing a communication taking stock both of their implementation and of their practical application. In particular, the call for evidence should make it possible to gather information on the experience of the parties concerned and to contribute to that assessment.
