06/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment adopted its position on extending the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as well as on the temporary decarbonisation fund proposed by the European Commission on 17 December 2025 (see EUROPE 13775/10). MEPs voted on Monday 6 July, on the sidelines of the plenary session in Strasbourg, and came out in favour (56 votes to 11, with 12 abstentions) of the compromise text by the rapporteur, Mohammed Chahim (S&D, Dutch), on the CBAM. They voted by 59 votes to 16, with six abstentions, in favour of the compromise text by the rapporteur, Pascal Canfin (Renew Europe, French), on the decarbonisation fund. In both cases, the amendments tabled by the ‘Europe of Sovereign Nations’ group were rejected and all the compromises were accepted. Agence Europe will continue to follow this story. (ND)
