06/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – In a report published on Wednesday 6 May, Finance Watch warns of the growing risks to European financial stability posed by ‘shadow’ banking. Non-bank finance includes investment funds,’hedge funds’, private credit funds and other financial players operating outside the traditional banking sector. The NGO analyses that the growing interconnections between banks and non-banks, through repo or derivatives markets, are creating systemic vulnerabilities that are still insufficiently monitored by European regulators. Finance Watch is calling on the European Union to strengthen supervision of the sector and warns that the next financial crisis could emerge outside the banks.
