MEPs to vote on a motion of censure on ‘von der Leyen’ Commission on 10 July

02/07/2025 (Agence Europe)The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, announced to the presidents of the European Parliament’s political groups on Wednesday 2 July that a motion of censure concerning the ‘'von der Leyen II’ Commission had been tabled and that it met the conditions for tabling. The debate on this motion will take place on Monday 7 July and the vote will take place on Thursday 10 July in Strasbourg, in accordance with Rule 131 of the European Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, a parliamentary source told Agence Europe. “The chances to stop to the ‘von der Leyen’ era are real”, said MEP Gheorghe Piperea (ECR, Romanian) via X, reporting active support from 79 MEPs. According to him, the conservatives and the far right have opposed Ms von der Leyen since the first day of her first mandate, while the socialists and liberals have criticised her for calling into question the ‘European Green Deal’.
