02/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 2 July, four agricultural organisations in the EU sent a letter to Member States and MEPs calling on them to reject the EU/Mercosur trade agreement. The signatories are: - the European coordination Via Campesina; - EFFAT, the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions; - the main European agricultural organisations, Copa and Cogeca; - the European Council of Young Farmers, CEJA. In their view, studies carried out by the European Commission on the cumulative impact of trade agreements point to a fall in the price of agricultural products in the EU. “While some may view such reductions as ‘limited’, they would, in practice, compound already unsustainable market conditions where farmgate prices are insufficient to sustain livelihoods”, explain the signatories. The proposed conclusion of the agreement is expected in the next few days (see EUROPE 13670/3). The letter: https://aeur.eu/f/ho6 (LM)
