18/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 March, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) approved their negotiating position on the revision of the River Information Services (RIS) Directive by 37 votes to 2 (see EUROPE 13601/21). They also agreed, by 36 votes to 2, to begin discussions with the Member States on the final form of the text, once the report has been approved at the April plenary session. In their position, the MEPs want to reduce red tape and speed up digitalisation. They prefer that the scope of the rules remain unchanged and apply only to inland waterways and ports forming part of a cross-border network, whereas the initial proposal was to extend the directive to all trans-European inland waterways.
